NOIR Jean02

May 3rd, 2012

NOIR Jean02
17 Ounce selvedge denim, beautifully crafted by Japanese artisans. Taking a more western cut than its Jean01 brother. Looser in the leg straight cut and a homage to Lee with a western back pocket. With all NOIR pieces is ALWAYS about the details! vintage style raised belt loops and Hebi patch on the waistband. Universal rivets on the front pockets and hidden on the back. Custom folded coin pocket to show off the selvedge. Chain stitched at the leg opening.

The colour of the Pocket and inside leg taping- Digger green. A colour chosen for similarity to the early Australian Army uniforms of the 20th century.

NOIR collection02 - Summer Jean

October 17th, 2011

The first drop from the new NOIR collection02- Summer Jean

The first variation on the NOIR Jean01, this time in a summer weight of 10.5oz selvedge denim.

Woven on an antique loom, the denim has loads or character and many little slubs in the linen-esque texture. Rinse washed so you dont have to worry about shrinkage and you know I love that pre-crinkled look. Wear them every day!

Available in Beige with green selvedge and in Grey with blue selvedge.

Individual as a finger print- BM's NOIR Jean001 washed

October 12th, 2011

After a year and a month BM threw in the towel and washed his NOIR jean001s with striking results.

The denim colour went from a midnight indigo to a vibrate blue due to a hot machine wash with lots of detergent and a drip dry.

Take a look at a comparison of before washing and after washing below

NOIR selvedge chambray shirt01

October 3rd, 2011

Now this shirt has seen some action. The abrasion around the collar and shoulders is evident in the high contrast.  There was no special washing care taken with it, regular machine washes after every wear and drip dry. The colour is amazing in between the stitches and the fabric's handle is so soft. One year down and there is still many years of life left in it.

The crinkle effect looks great on this shirt, it positively adds a rugged efect. i may even try to develop the same look into other pieces in the future. Hmmm

A chambray shirt is a perfectly balanced piece for your wardrobe. It can be worn with a dressier pant, leather shoes and a blazer or even chinos and chucks. It even looks great with a mesh or flannel tie. Don't be scared to tuck it in either!

The raw denim dilemma

September 29th, 2011

With all the positives of raw denim, the feeling of perfectly worn in jeans and the authenticity of the wear marks. unique PERSONALITY!
But there is one downfall... The dreaded indigo bleed! From underwear to couches to socks nothing is safe from the loose indigo dye.

My main problem is finding the right shoes to wear with them, Stan Smiths are out. Well, pretty much anything light coloured is a no go unless you want them to turn blue too. I feel a leather derby or even an Oxford a bit too "up tight" to wear every day. Where a suede wingtip brogue has enough detailing, for it not to be too formal and could be worn every day.

These Deluxe brogues made by the Japanese shoe maker Regal is a magnificent example of style and quality. The red brick sole is a little heavier and harder than other brands. Making these brogues a lot more durable, the suede is considerably thicker too. To top things off this black pair is also bleed proof too.

Deluxe Buick brogues available in the Up There store

NOIR jean001 1 year in

August 31st, 2011

Here we have BM's NOIR jean01 worn dedicately everyday for the past 12 months. The whiskering below the pockets are really coming thruough along with the honeycombing behind the knees. After another few months of wear, these jeans would be a perfect candidate for amazing wear marks after being washed. A hot machine wash with lots of soap will bring out the contrast to the maxium.  Can't wait to see them.
