Noir Denim Blog... Again.

February 23rd, 2012

I'm sure you are all - by now - used to a blog showing off the ageing process of Pete Le Chic's signature Jean0001. But I don't really care, and will show off mine anyway.

I toughed out a size 2 over a year ago - blue balls ever since - but couldn't be happier with the current result. Strong whiskers, dense combs and a unique heavy line on my left knee create what I consider 'living' art.

These are currently being repaired - for enhanced character - and in the meantime I have upgraded to a size 3, i'll let you know in a year how they react differently.

Social Roasting Company!

February 3rd, 2012

Cafes in Melbourne are like clothing; There’s a shit-load of unique ideas being thrown around, but most are trash. Every now and then I come across a Café that has the right idea. A great atmosphere, amazing staff, and a strong-bold brew all team up to make a truly fantastic morning experience.

Social Roasting Company is one such place. Shaun (apparently, as I was just told, it's Sean... technicality), the head Barista, loves his coffee and even more so, his regulars. Running a tight ship (don’t show up at 4:01, you won’t have any luck), S(ea)(hau)n remembers everything; Orders, Faces, Quirks…  he’ll remember.

His shot is one of the best I’ve had, strong, but deep in flavors (no bitterness here). The use of ethically harvested beans (single origin of course) adds to the feeling of a complete beverage. Order the ‘magic’ for a quick wake-up.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get a foam penis on top.

The Holy Grail of Shoe.

January 26th, 2012

Honestly, when Brendan first sent me a picture of the Dark Cherry Dress Camp Moc (by our good friends at Yuketen), I was astounded by the sheer beauty of the shoe. The perfect silhouette, an astonishing shade of Cherry, and a whelted style construction, all hit me like a slap from an oversized hand. I needed to see these in the flesh.

As I have come to expect from Yuketen, the shoe defines itself by quality, and this is no exception. It IS the best quality shoe on the market. THE BEST. A luxury insole provides instant gratification while the leather upper hugs your foot, ready to mold to your delicate feet.

Made in a limited quantity, the Dress Camp Moc is comprised of only the finest materials, utilising Horween’s Genuine Shell Cordovan. This leather is more than just a colour, it is a very specific oval shaped shell from a particular part of a horsehide and is tanned, stuffed, shaved, and then polished, a process taking over six months, with each shell slowly steeped in gentle vegetable liquors and hand rubbed with dye to achieve the rich and glossy Dark Cherry tones that Yuketen have donned to each of these very special Dress Camp Mocs.

Available now at Up There for $999!.... BARGAIN.

Wheels... Part II

January 18th, 2012

I promised to follow up my previous blog with another highlighting the beauty of an aged product. Instead, I’m going to diverge and show everyone a completely unrelated, but equally badass product.

After purchasing a Lime Green pushbike in the hope of becoming the Cadel Evans of commuting (a possible impulse buy, now selling for $249.95 at Ben’s Garage), I decided it was time to upgrade to something a tad faster. And by ‘tad’ I mean; My max speed is now 190kph, as opposed to walking my bike up steep hills.

The Ageing Process

January 9th, 2012

It’s amazing how, all of a sudden, a cruisy lifestyle can become insanely busy. This has happened to me lately, and I have found myself struggling to leave time for the things I enjoy doing the most. This blog is one of those things, and it’s about goddamn time I updated it, so I vow to update this page at least 3 times in the next week.

The theme of these blogs will be focused on the ageing process of various different pick-ups from the last year.

The first, and the one that I’m most excited about is my Tailfeather Wallet (man purse). This bad-boy comes in stunning Tan Kangaroo leather, a sensational leather that ages at a swift rate. I use this guy every day, and have been for a month or two now, as you can see, the leather has darkened to a great shade, and will only continue to obtain more character in months to come.

Here are some photos, and if I’m not mistaken, these are still available from Up There Store for a measly $340, get em’ while they’re hot.

Obscurity

January 7th, 2012

I've always been a tad hesitant when discussing the music industry in public, or the fact that I've spent a good chunk of my (short) adult life formalling studying it in some form. For such a demanding, time consuming, stress-inducing 'hobbie' it tends to float by as a topic of non-importance in most peoples lives. Sure, the radio is all fine n' dandy, Kanye west being the beez neez of pop-culture, but what of music that lies in obscurity, only heard by those who wish to search for it? That's what I play, and here's a taste of what is on offer:

I'm not sure how to embed videos, I'll ask Jason!

Woolen Bags

October 20th, 2011

I was lucky enough to pick up 1 of 3 Yuketen Triangle backpacks (perk of the blog!) last week, and I must admit... I'm in love. Now, I'm engaged, but if I were to commit adultery it would be with this backpack. The woolen outer coupled with the red canvas inner makes for one beautiful looking bag.

And the details, dont forget the details! A huge metal ring connects the highest quality leather straps to the bag, and the addition of a Yuketen style coaster stitched on the front completes the look.

Inside we have room for a laptop (or according to Yuki, a magazine holder), a front hidden pocket for small goods and an added black pocket system for pens/phone/loose change.

Here's some photos for you all to enjoy. Bag is available, as mentioned, in extremely limited quantities from Up There Store NOW!

Shabazz Palaces!

September 27th, 2011

It's music blog time again, and this time I have (possibly) the only hip-hop album I would happily sit through from start to finish. Meaning, it pays more attention to the construction of an entire album than rambling on about how rich and badass they are.

The artist in question is Ishmael Butler, and the album Shabazz Palaces - Black Up, is a brilliantly constructed album that touches on Jazz, Ambient and Psychedelic music. Take a listen to my favourite track, and then buy the rest of it!
